TrainsRunner
Integrated electro-mechanical simulator
TrainsRunner is an integrated electro-mechanical simulator for railway, metro rail, light rail and trolley systems. The simulator consists of a mechanical module and two electrical modules for DC and AC supply systems. TrainsRunner simulates the behavior of trains and the supply network
TrainsRunner supports the modeling of complex railway systems, consisting of several lines (characterized by horizontal and vertical profile and speed limits) with nodes of interconnection. The movement of trains is simulated by timetable or headway time. TrainsRunner also supports the simulation of short circuit along the line and in the substation
The model of the power grid can have a high level of detail and includes models of the lines, the substations, the interconnection nodes and related links. TrainsRunner is suitable for simulating systems with different types of power supply: 3 kV DC, 1.5 kV DC, 750 V DC, 600 V DC, 1x25 kV AC, 2 x 25 kV AC.
- Horizontal and vertical alignment of the line (curves and slopes), tunnels
- Speed limits, stops and stations
- Elements of signalling system
- Length, tare, payload and rotating masses
- Resistance to the motion, as function of speed, slopes, curve radius and tunnels
- Traction effort vs speed, total and electrodynamic braking effort vs speed, efficiency vs speed, line current vs line voltage, power factor vs speed (for AC systems)
- Mean power of auxiliary loads
- Multi conductor model of the line (AC systems), circuit model (overhead contact line, rails and line cables) for DC systems
- Electric circuit and model of substations (both AC and DC systems), with feeders
- Electric circuit of interconnections between lines
- Library of electric components (overhead contact line, rails, cables and equipment)
- Design of the railway supply system
- Verification of performances (trains operation and supply system)
- Verification of the electric and thermal sizing of equipment (overhead contact line, rails, cables and substation equipment)
- Calculation of short circuit currents (steady state) and design of protections
- Assessment of the energy efficiency of the whole railway system: vehicle consumption, losses, system consumption, energy recovery and storage
- Verification of electric safety, in normal operation and short circuit: rail potential and earth circuit potential
